About Nassau & Beyond
Nassau & Beyond is an independent magazine about the Bahamas and the wider Caribbean. We write the kind of pieces we wanted when we were planning our own trips, moving house between islands or trying to explain Junkanoo to visiting friends: long, practical, carefully checked and written by people who know the place.
Independent magazine – not affiliated with any newspaper or news organisation.
What we cover
- Travel & Islands – the Family Islands one by one, getting around by mail boat, ferry and small plane, beaches and cays, and when to go.
- Culture & History – Junkanoo, music, art and architecture, and the history you can still walk through in Nassau and the settlements.
- Food & Drink – conch in all its forms, fish fries, home cooking, bush teas, markets and what is in season.
- Island Living – the practical side of making a home here: housing, hurricanes, schools, groceries and paperwork.
- Business & Economy – tourism, financial services, starting a small business and the cost of living, in plain language.
- Lifestyle and Caribbean & World – ocean life, weekends and wellbeing, and the islands' ties with their neighbours and the wider world.
What we are not
We are a magazine, not a news service. We don't report breaking news, crime or politics day to day, and we don't publish obituaries, classified advertisements or an e-edition. If you are looking for the day's headlines, a Bahamian news outlet is the right place – we are the place for the background, the how-to and the long read.
This website sits on a domain that was used by other, unrelated websites in the past. Nassau & Beyond has no connection with any of them, and older addresses from those sites either point to our closest guide or have been retired.
Who writes it
The magazine is written by a small group of independent contributors – a sailor and travel writer, a historian, a cook, a long-time Abaco resident and a former small-business banker. Each writes about what they know first-hand, and every piece says who wrote it.
How we work
- We check what we publish. Facts are checked against official and primary sources wherever possible. Where rules, fees or schedules change often – ferry timetables, permit costs, fishing seasons – we say so and point you to the authority that keeps the current figures.
- We correct mistakes. If you spot an error, tell us and we will fix it and note the change where it matters.
- We are not advisers. Articles on money, immigration, health or the law are general information, not professional advice. Speak to a qualified professional about your own situation.
- No paid placements in disguise. We do not accept payment to feature a business in an article. If that ever changes, any such piece will be clearly labelled.
