Our writers
Nassau & Beyond is written by a small group of independent contributors who live in, sail around and keep returning to the islands.

Marisa Cartwright
Marisa grew up between Nassau and Long Island and has spent most of her adult life on boats, ferries and the back seats of nine-seater island planes. She writes about the Out Islands, sailing, snorkelling and getting from one cay to the next without losing a day.

Julian Pinder
Julian is a former history teacher who now spends his time in archives, old churchyards and Junkanoo shacks. He writes on Bahamian history and architecture, festival culture and the ties between the Bahamas and the rest of the Caribbean.

Simone Bethel
Simone cooks, writes and eats her way around the islands, from fish fry stalls to family kitchens. She covers conch and seafood, Bahamian home cooking, bush teas, markets and what is in season.

Hannah Lowe
Hannah moved from Abaco to Nassau and has helped more friends settle on the islands than she can count. She writes about island living: hurricanes, housing, schools, groceries and the practical side of making a home here.

Devon Saunders
Devon worked in banking and small-business lending before turning to writing. He explains the Bahamian economy in plain terms – tourism, financial services, starting a business and the cost of living.
